Our mission statement:
To enhance the capacity of regional economic development and housing through joint marketing and resource utilization of participating communities of Boyd, Owen, Withee, Stanley and Thorp.  Cadott and Curtiss later joined the Partnership.

WHAT is Highway 29 Community Partnership:
We are a group of community citizens that look at business, housing and community development opportunities in our region.  Local involvement plus USDA Rural Development, WHEDA and XCEL Energy all partners in local growth.

PURPOSE of the Highway 29 Community Partnership:
The purpose of our meetings is to share information and encourage participation to promote our region.  The group started based on the unknown effect on housing with the opening of the prison in Stanley.  We now have citizens from Cadott, Boyd, Stanley, Thorp, Withee, Owen, and Curtiss meeting monthly to find ways to promote the region.

Our current project is to promote the Yellowstone Trail which will bring more people to our communities and help our businesses.  John and Alice Ridge from the Yellowstone Trail Association helped us identify the trail from Cadott to Curtiss and shared their expertise of the history of the trail.

SUCCESSES of Highway 29 Community Partnership
  • Communicating and working together for the past five years.
  • A Resource team sponsored by Wisconsin Rural Partners.  This team of 6 professionals spent a week in the five original communities interviewing various groups and organizations.  The result was a written report which identified the strengths and weaknesses of each community.  This report provided a tool for planning future development.  A copy of this report can be found on the website at http://www.wirural.org/.  Click on TeamWorks! program, Archives, Highway 29 Community Partnership, May, 2002
  • Developed a website at partner29.com
  • Xcel Energy sponsored a conservation program for the five original communities and did energy audits and energy improvements.
  • WHEDA provided Owen and Withee funding for the Paint & Fix-Up program.
