Stanley, a warm-hearted community with a population of 3,378 is the largest of the Highway 29 Partnership cities. In recent years Stanley has been experiencing a "Rural Renaissance." Based historically on agriculture and wood working industries, the Stanley workplace has been changing rapidly since 2002 when the Stanley Correctional Institution and Ace Ethanol, Wisconsin's first large-scale producer of ethanol, began operations. Stanley is also to be home to Innovative Bio-Technologies, that is expected to use pulp from sugar beets to produce pectin. Pectin is used to firm up several hundred food products including candy bars and jellies. The company currently has its office in Stanley and will construct a plant after the technology has been fully developed and proven successful. On November 12, 2003, Our Lady of Victory Medical Center
opened a new campus near Highway 29. Operated under one roof are a
24-bed inpatient hospital, surgical suites, outpatient facilities
including kidney dialysis and cardiac rehabilitation, a medical
clinic and emergency care. The inpatient hospital and outpatient
services departments are staffed by licensed, registered or
certified personnel and have all the state of the art equipment available
to provide quality services to the hospital service area. To the
benefit of the consumer the area hospital provides many services
close to home.
The HOMEPLACE of Stanley opened in November of 2005.
This assisted living facility, consisting of 28 apartments has been
developed in Stanley's former "old hospital
complex." The care needs of the tenants are
provided within the privacy of their own apartments.
These apartments are an alternative to nursing home care. Services
provided include housekeeping, individual laundry, medical
transportation, family style meals and planned activities. The north side of the old hospital has been converted to 16 deluxe condominium units for those 55 and better. Grand opening of Stanley's 5th Avenue is set for summer 2007.
Since 1998 Stanley has spent over $15 million dollars expanding its infrastructure in order to serve new development in the city. The city has also purchased 420 acres of land along Highway 29. Of this, 388 acres remain available for housing, business, and industrial development. Highway 29 is a major four lane limited access east-west link to Interstate 39 at Wausau and Interstate 94 near Menomonie. Stanley is strategically located approximately halfway between Green Bay and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Recreational opportunities including camping, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling make Stanley a year round outdoor paradise. Among the amenities offered in the Stanley Community is the year round Stanley-Boyd Community Pool, which consists of an Olympic size swimming pool and an attached Fitness Center. Both facilities are located at the local High School and are open to the public at very reasonable fees. Beautiful city parks offer picnic facilities, playground equipment, ball fields and tennis and basketball courts. An elk and deer park are located at Chapman Park. Stanley is truly a community for all seasons and its slogan is " Stanley, a City Keeping Up With The Times." Visitors are always welcome and industry and new businesses interested in considering the city are invited to make inquiry with the city clerk's office at 715-644-5758. The city stands ready to use its full resources to assist. The Nicolet Welcome Service welcomes newcomers to the area. A visit from the service will provide newcomers with gift certificates and civic information. To gain this valuable packet call 715-644-5634 if you are missed. |
