Stanley Government

Stanley has a Mayoral/Council form of government that meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m.  Four Wards each have two representatives on the city council.  The City Clerk-Treasurers Office is located in a historic City Hall Building located at 116 East Third Avenue, Telephone 715-644-5758. The Police Department is also located at City Hall and can be reached at 715-644-5975. A Volunteer Fire Department is housed in a modern building at 230 E. First Avenue. The city's ISO fire rating for insurance purposes is 5, which allows businesses and industries reduced rates on their property insurance.

Two water treatment plants supply the city. Daily water demands by businesses, industry and residential customers are nearly one million gallons per day.  A modern wastewater treatment plant is located on the southeast corner of the city, along Highway 29.

Public library patrons have their library needs met at the Moon Memorial Library, located at 154 E. Fourth Avenue. The library was gifted to the city in 1901 by Mrs. Sally F. Moon. She had the library built as a memorial to her late husband, Delos R. Moon, a lumber magnate with Stanley's largest industry, the Northwestern Lumber Company.
The library building is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
